Caden Comes Home!!!

As much as we enjoyed our stay in the hospital, the transition home has been great. No more poking and prodding by the nurses every two hours and some time to just enjoy our new little angel. My milk has come in and Caden is now working on putting on the pounds. Thus far, he has been a fairly easy baby (knock on wood) and my Mom has been a great support in helping Chris and I adjust to life at home. As much as I'd like to share every detail here, Chris has informed me that all you really want to see are pictures, so here are some add'l pics:

Caden Andrew Harris

Caden Andrew Harris arrived on Monday, May 25th 2009 at 3:43pm. He weighs in at 7 pounds 13 ounces and is 20 inches long. He has a full head of thick black hair and he has beautiful blue eyes!

Caden's Birth Story
Sunday night at 11pm I felt like something was going on so I called our Doula, Nickie Tilsner and explained how I was feeling and what had happened. She suggested I call my doctor and she said to go to the hospital. We packed our bags and headed to the hospital. When I arrived, they checked me and I was already 4cm dilated, so they decided to check me into a labor and delivery room. Around 1:30am we were ready and in our L & D room. I slept on and off for about 4 hours until 5:30 am. Then the contractions started to pick up as I headed into the active phase of labor. I was 6 cm dilated around 8:00 am. My mom arrived from Oregon about 8:30 am and our Doula, Nickie, was at the hospital just a few minutes later.

I decided to have an all natural, medication free birth. It was definitely the most intense experience of my life. It took me about 8 hours to get through the first stage of labor. Wow, it's amazing what a woman's body is meant to do. After the first stage, I went into transition which felt like it lasted forever, but it was probably about 90 minutes (those contractions were the most intense). Finally, I reached the second stage of labor (also known as pushing) and after just over an hour, Caden Andrew Harris emerged at 3:43pm. It was certainly one of the most exhilerating feelings of my life. Becoming a parent for the first time is an experience that is hard to describe with words (Chris agrees). Pictures to follow very shortly.

p.s. (Chris here) Jamie was awesome through out the whole process. I am so proud of her as she remained strong throughout the entire day. I felt exhausted by the time he arrived and I hadn't done any work--she was amazing.

Last week of work cut short!

This week was supposed to be my last week of work. I went to school on Monday and Tuesday and had a Dr.'s appointment on Wednesday and was supposed to finish out the week. This little guy has other plans apparently!

There may be TMI below, but I am just trying to document all that has been going on this week.

This has been an easy pregnancy so far, but on Wednesday I had high blood pressure and that concerned the doctor because that means that I could have Pregnancy Induced Hypertension or Preclampsia. So the doctor sent us to the hospital to have my blood pressure checked and monitor the baby. We were there for about 3 hours while they did blood and urine tests. Everything checked out fine and we were sent home, but I have been placed on modified bed rest - so no more work. I also had to do a 24 hour urine sample at home. Quite an experience!!!

I went back into the doctor on Thursday to have my blood pressure checked again, and it was still high, so Dr. Huh ordered a non-stress test and amniotic fluid index test for Friday. For the amniotic fluid test we got to see the baby again! He is head down facing the right way, we reconfirmed that he was a boy, and got to see his heart, lungs, little toes, and spine. The nurse predicted that he will be an 8 pounder! Again, everything checked out fine, but I still have higher than normal blood pressure and am still on bed rest. I will go back to the doctor on Tuesday for a blood pressure check and have another NST/AFI on Tuesday as well. Wednesday we'll go back in to see the progress. As of now, I am 50% efaced and 2cm dilated! We're making good progress!

Showered with Love!

This little guy is the luckiest baby in the world! He's been showered with love and gifts four times! First, my mom's wonderful friends had a shower for him up in Oregon, then the next day, the mom's of my first grade class had a shower for him, then my friends had a shower for him and finally a surprise shower thrown by the teachers at school. I am so thankful to be surrounded by such amazing people and friends. Truly a huge thank you to everyone! We can't wait for you to meet our little guy!

Classes and Hospital Tour

We have now taken an infant care, birthing, and breastfeeding class. We have learned a lot and I think are pretty much ready - well as ready as we can be! We know where to go once we get to the hospital too! We had our tour last week and got to see the labor and delivery rooms and the postpartum/recovery rooms. It is good to have that visual so that I know what to expect!

More Visitors!

On the weekend of May 8-10 Clay, Endre and Maren came down to visit. We had a great time hanging out and experiencing how it will be to have an 8 month old! Maren was so close to walking, it was amazing!

Mom and Bryan also drove down that weekend to drop off all of the baby shower gifts from my lovely shower in Oregon! They deserve an award! They were in California for less than 24 hours! It was great seeing them, even if only for a few hours. Thanks guys!!!

The next weekend, my little sister Brittany came down to visit. We had a great time! She came with me to school on Friday and got to experience first grade! She was a real trooper and even came with us to our infant care class. She was also here for the beginning of the mucous plug coming out. Only a sister would be so excited at that pregnancy milestone! It was great just hanging out!

Changing table

We had quite a time getting the changing table home! It was too big to fit in the trunk so we had to tie it on top of the car. Good thing the Babies R' Us store isn't too far away! Here are a few pictures from getting the table home.

GSB Reunion

We had a great time at the GSB one year reunion. It was so great to see everyone! On Friday night we went out to Milagro's for dinner. Then on Saturday, there was a carnival (which I slept through - oops!), and on Saturday night there was a dinner at Schwab. It was really fun to catch up with our friends who have all moved out of the bay area. I am bummed I forgot my camera - so no pictures!
